Bubblebook is designed for children ages 5–10. Privacy and safety are core principles. We do not collect personal information directly from children, we keep no profile of your child on our servers, and there are no ads, no social features, and no accounts.
Each day, a child pops 5 bubbles to collect words. Those words — along with the name, age, description, and personality of the character the child stars as (which may be your child's own first name and appearance, as entered by a parent) — are sent to Anthropic's Claude API to write a short story. The finished story text and the character description are then sent to Google's Gemini API to generate the story's illustrations. The story and pictures are shown on-device and saved locally.
To create each personalized story and its illustrations, we send data to two third-party AI providers, and only for that purpose:
This information is sent solely to generate the story and its pictures. We do not use it for advertising, we do not sell it, and we do not keep it on our servers (aside from the temporary subscription identifier described under Subscriptions below). We do not send location, contacts, photos, device identifiers, or advertising identifiers.
On-device only: Stories, engagement data (pages viewed, words tapped), and session state are stored locally on the device using standard iOS storage. This information never leaves the device except for the story and illustration generation described above.
Bubblebook does not require user accounts. There is no sign-up and no login, and we keep no profile of your child on our servers. The only thing our server handles is an identifier for your Apple subscription (not your name or your child's), used briefly to enforce the one-story-per-day limit (see Subscriptions).
Bubblebook does not display advertisements of any kind.
Bubblebook is designed for children and built to comply with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA). We do not knowingly collect personal information directly from a child. The character name, age, description, and personality used to personalize a story are entered by a parent or guardian and are used solely to generate that story and its illustrations through the AI providers named above — never for advertising, profiling, or sale, and never stored on our servers. If you believe a child has provided personal information without a parent's involvement, please contact us and we will delete it.
Bubblebook uses Firebase Analytics (a Google service) to understand aggregate app usage — for example, how many stories are made and how long sessions last — so we can improve the app. Analytics is enabled only with consent and can be turned off in your device settings. We do not send your child's name, age, or character details to analytics, and we never use it for advertising (ad features and the advertising identifier are disabled). Firebase does assign a pseudonymous per-install identifier and records general in-app events (such as which words from our fixed word list are popped); this is used only in aggregate to improve the app — never to identify your child, and never for ads or cross-app tracking.
Bubblebook uses Apple's built-in text-to-speech to read words aloud when tapped. This processing happens entirely on-device. No audio data is sent anywhere.

Bubblebook offers auto-renewable subscriptions billed through Apple. Payment is charged to your Apple ID account. Subscriptions automatically renew unless canceled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. You can manage or cancel subscriptions in your device's Settings > Apple ID > Subscriptions.
To enforce the one-story-per-day limit and prevent abuse of our AI providers, our server temporarily stores an identifier for your Apple subscription. It is not linked to your child, their name, or any personal profile, and it is automatically deleted within about 48 hours.
You can delete all locally stored data by uninstalling the app. Aside from the temporary Apple-subscription identifier described above, we hold no personal data about your child on our servers, so there is nothing personal to request or delete.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will update the "Last Updated" date at the top of this page.
